Boys in our community need positive male role models.

About Us

Our Philosophy

Agency Vision:

Mentor Portland is a Program of Boys & Girls Aid. We envision, and will work to create, communities that value children and families and are committed to their success and growth.

Mentoring Programs Purpose:

We establish and support meaningful mentor relationships between responsible adults and youth through a community that is committed to their growth and success.

Positive Youth Development:

Mentor Portland is a strength-based program because we recognize the inherent value of each youth. We empower youth by giving them respect and soliciting their input when making program decisions. We also believe that each youth, when faced with a personal decision, is capable of taking into account the complexities of a situation and making the best possible decision for him or herself. We support youth through this process and avoid questioning the judgment of youth.

Cultural Competency

We are committed to providing a place for youth from diverse cultural experiences to feel safe, supported, and comfortable. Towards that goal, we provide proactive education about culturally responsive relationship building. We also work toward removing barriers that may exist in our program for current and potential clients, staff, and volunteers.

Volunteer Rights & Responsibilities

As a volunteer you will:

  • Receive assistance in finding the ideal spot for you.
  • Share your knowledge, wisdom and experience with others.
  • Enjoy the pleasures that come with being connected with youth.
  • Remain an active and vital member of the community.
  • Meet new people, develop new skills and discover new experiences.
  • Receive recognition for your services to the community.
