The Experience
Mentors and youth meet for the first time at a 'Matching Ceremony' which includes group games, dinner, and dessert. We match four times a year so there's always an upcoming matching date. We take great time in care in pairing mentors and youth so that both interests and needs are considered. Our professional staff provides intensive pre-match and ongoing training, which includes topics such as communication skills, cultural diversity, and building healthy relationships. Our goal is that all mentors feel equipped and supported in the mentoring experience.
Focus on FUN!
The mentor commitment is 6 hours a month for a minimum of a year. Activities are provided once a month to strengthen and support the mentor-youth relationship. Shared experiences can build confidence and connection between a mentor and youth.
Optional activities include...
Rock Climbing | Volunteer at Zoo | Camp | Bowling
Horseback Riding | Beach Day | Community Service Events | Holiday Party
Corn Maze | Sledding Mt. Hood | Activity Nights | Art Projects
The most important activity of the year is a weekend at Camp Collins. Getting away from the distractions of life, pairs have the opportunity to strengthen their relationship through a challenge/ropes course, teambuilding activities, games, nature viewing, and evening campfires.
